Field Operations:
The Field Operations Division is a combination of 80 paid career Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and 343 volunteers. Career firefighters are all licensed EMTs, certified at the Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic levels, and all are certified firefighters. The career staff is divided into 3 shifts providing full-time coverage from six strategically located stations. Their shifts are scheduled 48 hours, followed by 96 hours off duty. Of the 343 volunteers on the roster, approximately 220 are trained firefighters, EMTs, or both. A number of others serve in essential and non-essential support roles.
SFCFD respondes 6074 requests for sercvice in 2009. We cover 2000 square miles with a population of 77,000 plus. We have two major interstates, other major highways, and terrain varying from high desert to high alpine. Our essential mission and number one priority is to “Provide compassionate, high quality emergency services to the people of Santa Fe County.”
2009 Accomplishments include:
• Tested and promoted 3 Shift Lieutenants. • Opened and staffed new paid station (La Tierra). • 1 Created new map reference areas for response configurations. • 1 employee promoted to paramedic status. • Reclassification of Battalion Captains to Battalion Chiefs • Promoted 2 new Battalion Chiefs • Held two Cadet Academies • Graduated 17 new Firefighters • Negotiated and ratified Collective Bargaining Agreement with IAFF 4366 • Renewed EMS pharmacy licenses. • Contracted new Medical Director. • Developed and hire Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Position for Volunteers Section • Participated in the RECC Review Committee • Created new QA/QI Program • Created QA/QI in cooperation with Regional Emeregncy Communications Center (RECC) • All Districts compliant with New Mexico EMS Statistics and Response System (NMSTARS) • All Districts compliant with National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) • Created Fire-Risk Management Safety sub-committee • Updated Response Guidelines for RECC according to Medical Priority Dispatch System version 12
