Welcome to our first newsletter. I am so grateful to be your newly elected county commissioner. Here is a brief update from my first seven weeks in office.
The first exciting piece of news is that I was elected Vice Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. The boards and committees that I will be representing you on are:
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD)
Solid Waste Management Authority (SWMA)
Santa Fe Internal Audit Committee (SFIAC)
And as Vice Chair, I serve on the Santa Fe Investment Committee along with Chair Henry Roybal.
I also serve as an alternate on the Buckman Direct Diversion (BDD) and the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD).
I’m very excited to be serving on these committees and to be able to work on the issues of sustainability and economic development. The MPO works on roads and there are many roads in District Two that need attention. State Highway 70 will be discussed at the next MPO meeting. At present DOT is planning to close it at the intersection of 599. I will keep you apprised of the progress on this issue.
With former Mayor David Coss and Guadalupe Lopez sharing stories at a breakfast for our immigrant leaders at Somos Un Pueblo Unido in January.
February 13th was Film and Media Day at the Roundhouse. As a strong advocate for the film industry and its workforce, I attended the press conference to lend my support.
We’ve finally got our office in place at the County Manager’s Office, on the second floor; 102 Grant Avenue. I’m looking forward to seeing constituents in my office, and we’ve already met with many of you on a diverse number of issues. To set an appointment, please contact my Constituent Services Liaison, Maria Rotunda at 986-6263.
The county has volunteer board and commission positions to fill. If you are interested in sharing your expertise with our community, please go to http://www.santafecountynm.gov/committees.
Since the County Ethics Board has been in the news, it’s worth mentioning that there are items in the ethics ordinance that need clarifying. The Commission will request that the Ethics Board look into this and make recommendations to update it. The ethics ordinance only covers elected officials and appointed county officials who serve on boards and commissions. County employee ethics issues are covered under the unions and the human resources department.
The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meetings are held the second and last Tuesday of every month. BCC packets and meeting agenda is available online on the County website: http://www.santafecountynm.gov/committees/board_of_county_commissioners_bcc
