The following document outlines the policies for the use of Santa Fe County's Official Website and the protection of personal information of members of the public who access county department information through the Santa Fe County Official Website.
Santa Fe County's Official Website does not use “cookies” or collect personal information through any other technological means to identify users. However, if you send an electronic email to Santa Fe County that contains personally identifiable information, please take note that all information collected, assembled, or maintained in connection with a governmental body is subject to the State of New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act.
We offer the following free services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal information by users:
Electronic Newsletters: We offer a free electronic newsletter to our site visitors. Santa Fe County gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe. Users can remove themselvesfrom this mailing list by following the instructions on our subscription management page. Users can also subscribe to the newsletters at the time of registration.
Tax/Assessment Information: Access to Santa Fe County Tax/Assessment information is granted through the submission of a Tax/Location Identification Number. Through the State of New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act, the Tax/Location Identification Number may be obtained through the Santa Fe County Assessor's Office. The Tax/Location Identification number is only used in query and look-up situations and is not used by Santa Fe County's Official Website for any other purpose.
Polling: We may offer interactive polls to users so they can easily share their opinions with other users and see what our audience thinks about important issues. Opinions or other responses to polls are aggregated and are not identifiable to any particular user. Santa Fe County uses a system to “tag” users after they have voted, so they can vote only once on a particular question. This tag is not correlated with information about individual users.
Santa Fe County tracks user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. Santa Fe County does, however, break down overall usage statistics according to a user's domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user's browser). Santa Fe County sometimes tracks and catalogs the search terms that users enter in our “search” function, but this tracking is not associated with individual users. We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users frequently visit based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us to continue to build a better web-based service for you.
Santa Fe County operates secure data networks and systems using industry standard security devices, procedures and protocols. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our website visitors.
